A German man who lives in Co Leitrim has been fined 25p at Carrick-on-Shannon District Court for failing to send his 11-year-old son to school. Mr Ernest Seitz of Ballinaboy, Leitrim PO, Carrick-on-Shannon, was charged with failing to comply with the 1927 School Attendance Act and was fined 25p, the maximum under the Act. Mr Seitz has two previous convictions for failing to send his son, Benjamin, to school.
His solicitor, Mr Des Murphy, told the court that the boy had not been to school for more than a year and that he would not be sent in the future. Garda Insp. Gerry Connolly said all he could do was look again at the case and he would be "taking a different course of action in the future".
