The ploughing championships are like New York, in that both are full of the weapons of mass distraction. Everything, from wellie-throwing competitions to watching anxious politicians getting their boots dirty, is on the varied menu.
Yesterday, as the yellow Ferns soil, churned up by tens of thousands of feet, began to resemble the Somme, the event settled into its own rhythm.
There was the beat of country and Irish music from the bars which were packed with wet ploughing enthusiasts from early morning.
There was the beat of the rain on canvas as hardy souls let on they were extremely interested in any item anywhere under cover.
There was the steady throb of generators pumping out power to feed and water the crowd which yesterday exceeded 65,000.
Down in the machinery section, a man and his son stood enthralled by a huge tractor, looking at it in the same way a parent might look at a first-born child. It emerged that they were about to buy "her" but not until the stands were taken down and the sales people were stuck with the cost of bringing "her" home.
Indeed, by early tomorrow, this much-admired, shiny machine will have a new home near Gorey, Co Wexford, hopefully, according to the pair, at a price lower than that listed in the catalogue.
Yesterday morning, the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Walsh, braved the elements on his walkabout, only to be confronted by men wearing body warmers with messages of doom. Fortunately for the Minister and his minders, they were not protesting farmers but evangelists spreading the word of God.
One farmer, however, was quick to spot the opportunity and he called to Mr Walsh: "The end is nigh", which raised a bit of a laugh.
Out on the wet fields it was ladies' day The winner, Ms Breda Brennan Murphy, from Co Carlow, was crowned "Queen of the Plough" at a function in the Riverview Park Hotel, Enniscorthy, last night. The town, about nine miles from the site, is expected to take in an estimated £5 million during the championships.
Today, the champion ploughman will be announced, as will Ireland's representative to take part in the world ploughing event later this year.
