A SOLICITOR has been summoned to court by a judge to explain what was described as an "outrageous" fee charged for providing a medical report in a personal injuries action. Judge Esmonde Smyth, in Dublin Circuit Civil Court, said he would not now divulge the name of the solicitor or the doctor concerned but said there was "an uncanny resemblance" in their names, which gave rise to concern.
Judge Smyth made his order after awarding Ms Sarah Jane Corbally (21), of Green Lawn, Newtown, The Ward, Co Dublin, £5,001 for oil burns on her arms while operating a popcorn kettle at the Omniplex Cinemas in Santry, Dublin.
Judge Smyth said he was, very concerned in that both the doctor and the solicitor had demanded payment for the provision of a medical report to Ms Corbally. Asking his registrar to summon the solicitor to court, he said the solicitor concerned was not the firm engaged by the defendants, City Cinemas Ltd, or on behalf of the plaintiff.
