Social inclusion awareness week in Dublin

Dublin City Council's first Social Inclusion Awareness Week was launched last night by Lord Mayor of Dublin Vincent Jackson.

The council said that the aim of the week was to highlight the "positive work" carried out by Dublin City Council and by other agencies in reducing poverty and lack of opportunity through social exclusion.

The mayor said that the council played a key role in delivering vital services and he congratulated it on its promotion of an understanding of diversity in the city.

During the week, the council's Library Learning Bus will be in various locations around the city, and staff from the libraries will deliver a course in the atrium of the Civic Offices which will introduce beginners to computers, the internet and e-mail.

Training courses will be available to Dublin City Council staff throughout the week, including diversity training, plain English training and local anti-poverty social inclusion strategy training.
