Kuala Lumpur - A smouldering fire at a rubbish dump blanketed Malaysia's capital in a thick cloud of smoke yesterday, residents said. The blaze broke out on Thursday evening in the sprawling dump on the southeastern edge of the city and was still burning nearly 24 hours later.
"There's no fire but a lot of smoke," a police spokesman said. "Visibility in the area is very bad."
Firefighters said their efforts had so far proved futile as the flames were difficult to trace beneath the mounds of garbage.
