The Dingle Peninsula: 30 walks and scrambles, and The Beara Peninsula: 40 walks and scrambles, by Barry Keane (Collins Press, £4.99 each)
These affable little pocket-sized books do exactly what they say on the cover: provide clear-headed, concise descriptions of walks which range from pleasant strolls to considerably rougher scrambles involving ropes. A keen walker himself, Keane aims to focus on the walks which are usually left out of the guidebooks; he is also of an extremely practical bent, being careful always to advise you where to leave your car. But if it's poetic prose by the mile you're after, you'd do well to look elsewhere.
