Six young men among 10 killed on the roads

The dead are: Mr Peter McCarthy, in his 30s, of Kilmacow, Co Kilkenny, who was walking on the Waterford Limerick road yesterday, and Mr Declan Quinn (21), Relaghbeg, Bailieboro, Co Cavan, whose car hit a ditch at Kells road, Bailieboro, yesterday.

Four died on Sunday - Mr Colm Folan (23), Spiddal, Co Galway, who was the driver of a car which collided with another car near Spiddal; Mr Sean Carey (28), Reask Crescent, Navan, Co Meath, whose motorcycle struck a fence near Navan; Mr Richard Cully (76), Carbury, Co Kildare, who was struck by a car while walking at Carbury; and Mr Michael Jinks (24), the Mall, Sligo, whose motorcycle struck a parked car in Magheracar, Bundoran, Co Donegal.

On Saturday, Mr John O'Gara (18), Frenchpark, Co Roscommon, died in a collision between a car and a van on the Ballaghaderreen/Frenchpark road.

There were three deaths on Friday - Mr Colin O'Callaghan Westropp (21), Killaloe, Co Clare, whose motor cycle was in collision with a car near Roscrea, Co Tipperary; Ms Karen Fowley (12), Bunduff, Co Sligo, who was struck by a car on the Sligo Bundoran road; and Mr Desmond Darcy (38), Portroe, Nenagh, Co Tipperary, whose car hit a wall at Belleen, Nenagh.

Three were injured, one critically, when a car left the road near Kildare town on the Kildare to Monasterevin road early on Sunday morning.
