Six books have been shortlisted for the Reading Association of Ireland (RAI) Children’s Book Awards.
The finalists of the biannual award were announced at the weekend by Pat Shortt.
One of the six books is The Story of Ireland(O'Brien Press) which was written by broadcaster Brendan O'Brien.
Another non-fiction finalist is Wild Dublin(O'Brien Press) by broadcaster and wildlife expert Éanna Ní Lamhna.
Two other novels aimed at young adults are in the final six. Moveby Conor Kostick (O'Brien Press) is a fantasy adventure story. It is the medieval world that is the setting for The Poison Thronea debut novel by Celine Kiernan (O'Brien Press).
The final two are Adolf Sna hArda(Cois Life), the only Irish language book on the shortlist, written and illustrated by Norwiegian artist Marvin Halleraker and Hal's Sleepover(O'Brien Press) by Maddie Stewart.
