Six people died and one person was injured in road accidents over the weekend.
A 19-year-old man was killed in Ballina, Co Mayo, yesterday when his motorcycle went out of control, mounted a pavement and crashed into a wall on Lord Edward Street in the town at 11.50 a.m. A female passenger on the bike was injured.
Mr P.J. Doyle (27), from Terrath, New Ross, Co Wexford, was killed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a van in Ballymitty, Co Wexford, at 1.20 a.m yesterday.
On Saturday, Mr Raymond Cassidy (28), of Gortbeg Avenue, Finglas, Dublin, died when the car he was driving hit a telephone poll in Dun shaughlin, Co Meath, at around 4.10 a.m.
At 6.10 a.m. on Saturday, Mr Aongus Higgins (23), from Strandhill, Sligo, was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in was involved in a collision at Firgrove in Shannon, Co Clare. Also on Saturday, a 40-year-old man died in Dublin when his car struck a road sign. The accident happened at 8 p.m. near the Red Cow Inn on the Naas Road.
Meanwhile, gardai are appealing for witnesses to an accident at the Coachman's roundabout close to Dublin Airport at 3.30 a.m. on Saturday. Ms Janet Scandurra, of Carlton Court, Swords, Co Dublin, died in Beaumont Hospital from injuries sustained when the car she was driving mounted the round-about.
