A man and a woman arrested by gardaí investigating a double murder in Limerick have been released.
Six others remain in custody in connection with the deaths of Des Kelly (24) and Breda Waters (28) who were found shot dead at a house in the O’Malley Park area of the city last weekend.
Postmortem results confirmed that both victims were shot once in the head with a shot gun.
The man (49) was released from Mayorstone Garda station, and the woman (36) was released from Henry Street.
Three men and three women are still being detained at Garda stations across Limerick city in relation to the incident.
Some 1,600 hours of CCTV footage, covering a five-square-mile radius on the south side of the city, has been reviewed by gardaí working the case.
Detailed searches have been carried out on at least five houses, but the murder weapon had yet to be located.
However, clothing believed to have been worn by one of the killers had been recovered and sent for forensic analysis.
Five vehicles and a scooter have been impounded. House-to-house inquiries had been carried out at 393 homes, he added, and 593 people had been interviewed, Chief Supt Dave Sheahan said earlier this week.
He said the investigation was being conducted “diligently and expeditiously” and it was necessary to detain all six people for an additional 72 hours and that he was still waiting on the results of scientific and technical tests which were ongoing.
Mr Kelly, a father of three, and Ms Waters, a mother of three, were buried in Limerick yesterday.
