Three men have been arrested and a firearm recovered following an attempted robbery at a post office in Dublin this morning.
The incident happened at about 8am when gardaí responded to reports of three men acting suspiciously close to Ballygall Road in Finglas village.
Three men were arrested at the scene and a firearm, gloves, masks and boilersuits were recovered.
They are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Finglas Garda station.
Meanwhile, gardaí also arrested three men in relation to an attempted post office robbery in Dundalk, Co Louth this morning.
Gardai were in the area of the post office monitoring a cash delivery by a security company.
Two men were arrested on Bridge Street and a third man was arrested some distance away in Kilcurry. A hatchet was located by gardaí near the scene, a Garda statement said.
The men are being detained in Dundalk and Drogheda Garda stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. Their ages range from mid 30s to mid 40s.
