A driver and five passengers were killed today when their car was crushed by a commuter train on a level crossing in the Portuguese capital Lisbon, local media said.
A spokesman for the state railway firm CP said warning lights and barriers were working normally when the accident occurred at 6.50 a.m.
"We can talk of two possibilities here: First, that the driver ignored warnings and unduly entered the railway, or that the car itself may have broken down," he told independent TSF radio.
