Gardaí are today starting a six-day campaign of additional checks for compliance with a number of driving regulations.
The campaign will entaiil see gardaí checking tyres, lights, blood alcohol levels, and speed as well as licence compliance.
Gardaí will also focus on compliance with NCT, road tax, and the use of seatbelts and child restraints.
The move comes ahead of this month's crackdown on learner-drivers who drive without an accompanying driver.

Drivers on a second learner permit - what was once termed a provisional licence - are allowed to drive unaccompanied, but from June 30th next this is to change, and all drivers on learner permits will be required to have a qualified driver of at least two years experience with them.
