AN 18-YEAR-OLD woman has been sent forward for trial for the murder of her brother at a party in their uncle’s house.
Caroline Brennan, of Love Lane, Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny, appeared before Kilkenny District Court yesterday.
Michael Brennan (22) died at a party in a house on Barrack Street, Castlecomer, at 3.30am on December 30th last year.
He was discovered with a knife wound to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.
State solicitor Gerry Meaney told Judge William Harnett yesterday that the Director of Public Prosecutions had given consent for Ms Brennan to be sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court.
He said the book of evidence had already been served.
Michael Lanigan, solicitor for the accused, told the court his client was on bail and applied for a continuation of the existing bail order set down by the High Court in April.
Ms Brennan appeared in court wearing a white blouse and black trousers, with her hair held up at the back.
Judge Harnett said the bail order from the High Court was a “running order” and agreed to a continuation of bail for Ms Brennan under its existing conditions.
Judge Harnett asked Ms Brennan if she understood the charges, to which she nodded that she did.
He then directed that Ms Brennan be sent forward for trial to the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court.
