OJ Simpson’s lawyer said today the former actor and American football star has isolated from other prisoners for his own safety after being jailed for kidnapping and robbery.

Yale Galanter said he was seeking a new trial and would continue to pursue a request for Simpson to be
released on bail pending an appeal.

Meanwhile, Mr Galanter says Simpson has been advised by his lawyers to give no media interviews and allowed to see only family members and a few friends placed on a special list at the jail.

Simpson will be held in Clark County Detention Centre in Las Vegas until his December 5th sentencing, and is then expected to be transferred to state prison.

It is likely that Simpson would remain in jail during his appeal.

Simpson (61), was convicted on Saturday of kidnapping two sports memorabilia dealers and robbing them at gunpoint in a room at the Palace Station hotel and casino in Las Vegas on September 13th last year - 13 years to the day after he was cleared of double murder.

The jury in the Los Angeles trial cleared him of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman.
