Siemens's customer interaction centre in Cork has secured a multi-million pound customer support contract that will secure the jobs of 200 staff already employed and create around 100 new positions next year.

The contract to support customers and dealers of Siemens Information and Communications Mobile group (ICM). The deal is worth in excess of £4.5 million per annum was won following a competitive tender process.

More than half a dozen other providers of contact centre services submitted tenders for the contract, explained Siemens general manager Mr Doug Lockhart.

"The contract was awarded to Siemens because of our ability to deliver world class technical support and customer care to consumers in rapidly developing technical markets," he added.

The ICM deal involves providing technical support to businesses from more than 12 European countries, including new markets such as Luxembourg.

Siemens employs 865 people located in Dublin and Cork and had a turnover of €336 million last year.
