Germany's Siemens is aiming for a 15 per cent share of the global mobile phone market and has no plans to dispose of the business, its boss said today.
"We have to aim for over 10 per cent. The ideal situation would be 15 per cent, but we are still far away from that," chief executive Mr Heinrich von Pierer said in an interview with Finnish business paper Kauppalehti.
Siemens, the world's fourth-largest mobile phone maker, said last week it could raise raise its handset market share to over 9 per cent from 7.8 per cent in the third quarter.
Market leader Nokia had a share of about 36 per cent.
Mr Von Pierer also denied Siemens was planning to sell its mobile phone business to US peer Motorola Inc.
In September the firms were rumoured to be considering a swap in which Motorola would get Siemens's mobile phone business and the German firm would get Motorola's mobile networks business.
