THE Siamese twins born to parents in Cork have died. In a statement the "proud" parents of the girls said the twins, born two weeks ago, had died on Sunday.
The parents, who do not wish to be named, thanked the staff of Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin "for looking after their two beautiful daughters who gave them a lifetime of happiness in the two weeks of their short lives".
A spokeswoman for the hospital said yesterday that the babies had died at 2 a.m. on Sunday "very peacefully".
The babies were joined from the chest to the abdomen. Specialists from Great Ormond Street Hospital in London flew to Dublin to try to save the babies. But it is believed they shared vital organs, including a heart, which would have been incapable of supporting two bodies.
They were born in the Erinville Hospital in Cork on February 11th and transferred to Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin.
