Five shots were fired during disturbances between loyalist and nationalist youths in North Belfast early this morning.
An RUC spokesman said up to 50 youths on each side fired missiles and fireworks at each other for about one hour in the Limestone Road area, before being dispersed.
He added that five shots were heard, but they were not directed at police. Nobody was hurt.
Two police officers were hurt when crowds clashed in the same area yesterday at lunchtime.
