An Estonian tourist who shoplifted from a store in Grafton Street was given a ninemonth prison sentence in Dublin District Court yesterday.
Aleksei Barulin (37) pleaded guilty to stealing a Cerrutti suit and two Valentino jackets worth £2,000 from Brown Thomas on October 24th. The court was told Barulin was a tourist and wanted to return to Estonia. Judge Gerard Haugh ton said shoplifting expensive clothing by people visiting for a few days had become common. He was putting the message out that this type of tourism was not wanted and sentenced Barulin to nine months in jail.
