THE ESTABLISHMENT of a global logistics centre for humanitarian aid at Shannon airport is among a number of amendments to the Draft Clare County Development Plan 2011-2017.
The strategy was unanimously approved by members of Clare County Council this year, but a number of amendments have been made to the plan after a 10-week public consultation period.
The plan proposes initiatives to harness the potential of Shannon International Airport, including a flight school, a global logistics centre for humanitarian aid, unmanned aerospace systems and a centre for space collaboration and research co-operation.
The council has also promised to “proactively pursue” an international-scale tourism project for Clare. Potentially this could see a theme park similar to EuroDisney in Paris being established for the first time in Ireland.
Clare county manager Tom Coughlan said the plan placed a strong emphasis on the production, storage and distribution of renewable energy while balancing the need to protect the environment of Clare.
The plan also proposes facilitating a marina development and associated amenities at appropriate locations along Lough Derg.
The plan has been placed on public display until November 3rd.
