A Sinn Fein Assembly member was among four people charged last night over a protest in Belfast against a loyalist parade earlier this month.

Ms Sue Ramsey was the latest protester to be charged with public order offences over the Apprentice Boys march through the nationalist lower Ormeau area on August 14th.

The chairman of the lower Ormeau residents' group, Mr Gerard Rice, and a Sinn Fein councillor, Mr Sean Hayes, have already appeared in court on public order charges.

The lower Ormeau Road was the scene of scuffles between the police and nationalists as the RUC tried to move a sit-down protest off the road ahead of the Apprentice Boys march. Some 27 civilians and 19 police officers were injured.
