YOUNG Fine Gael has withdrawn an invitation to Sinn Fein to participate in a peace conference in Dublin today, because of recent IRA violence.
Sinn Fein representatives had been due to attend the gathering at the US ambassador's residence in the Phoenix Park. It will be addressed by the Taoiseach, Mr Bruton.
Youth wings of political parties in the Republic, Northern Ireland and Britain will attend.
The invitation to Sinn Fein was withdrawn "because of the recent escalation of IRA activity", according to Mr Arthur Lynch, the Young Fine Gael chairman.
