A Sinn Fein candidate in yesterday's council elections has won the right to a judicial investigation of claims that the RUC unlawfully recorded details from his election papers.
Mr Sean McGirr, who is seeking a seat on Armagh City Council, was granted leave in the High Court in Belfast to apply for a judicial review.
He said in court papers that on May 11th his car was stopped at a checkpoint outside Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone. A policeman began to search through election papers and recorded details of election canvassers and the names of people who had indicated they would vote for him.
