Publications available in Dublin city centre newsagents yesterday featured a wide range of explicit sexual material.
Photos of naked female models simulating masturbation and using sex aides were standard in many publications. Photos of naked couples simulating fellatio and cunnilingus were also common. One magazine published in Northern Ireland, Erotic Ireland, features "free contact ads" which include pictures of the advertiser's genitalia.
Several advertisements offer to help housewives and couples fulfil sexual fantasies. A contact number is printed with each advertisement. However, there is no suggestion in the copy that the advertisers expect money for sexual favours.
The magazine also features photos of naked couples, with explicit accounts of readers' sexual experiences and fantasies.
Phone services catering for transvestites, masochists and other fetishists are advertised.
Gallery Worldwide, an American magazine which is also available in the city centre, offers The Girl Next Door Contest, in which amateur models send in photos of themselves in an attempt to win a $25,000 prize.
The magazine advertises X-rated videos and adult phone lines. For reasons which are not clear, three pages of the magazine are greyed out.
Gent, another US magazine on sale in Dublin, describes itself as "home of the D cups". It specialises in photos of large-breasted women.
