Four men were killed last night in two seperate accidents in Northern Ireland.

It is believed a father and son died when their van collided with a van near Tobermore, Co Derry. One of the victims was killed at the scene and the other died later in hospital.

Another two men were killed when their cars collided on the Moira Road near Lisburn, Co Down, at around 9.30pm.

Meanwhile, one motorcyclist has died and another is seriously ill in hospital following two motorcycle accidents in recent days.

Gardaí at Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, are investigating a two-vehicle accident at Knocknacrann East, Magheracloone, at 3 p.m. yesterday. The 81-year-old male driver of one vehicle died.

In another accident at Crookstown, Ballytore, Co Kildare, yesterday morning, a car driven by a 31-year-old woman collided with a gate and the woman was killed.

The names of the dead will not be released until all next of kin have been notified.

The motorcycle accidents come as AXA prepares to launch a new initiative to offer insurance premium discounts to motorcyclists who do approved training courses. The scheme will be launched in early February, with discounts of up to 35 per cent available, depending on skill and experience.

Mr Aidan Martin (38) from Moate received fatal injuries on Sunday night when his motorbike went out of control and crashed at Kilmacaugh, Athlone, Co Westmeath.

At 7.15 a.m. yesterday, a motorcyclist sustained serious injuries after colliding with a car on Fortunestown Lane, Tallaght, Dublin.
