A GLANCE AT THE WEEK THAT WAS
Happy in their workplace
A good chunk of the country was hoping to pick up the record €19 million jackpot in last weekend's Lotto, and a good chunk of a Carlow factory ended up with the winning ticket.
15 male employees, and one female ex-employee, from the Dan Morrissey concrete plant comprised the happy syndicate, thanks to some quickpick luck. They scooped €1,184,215.06 each.
"It's a lot of money," said one of them, Patrick Kearns, "but it's not enough to sail away."
Stony grey soil no longer
The village of Clontibret, Co Moanaghan, struck gold this week too - literally. At least, the mining company Conroy Diamonds and Gold did, and it issued a formal anouncement to the London Stock Exchange saying that it had identified gold deposits worth over half a billion euro. This would make it the biggest gold deposit in Ireland or the UK.
