Members of the Seanad received notice of another busy work programme in the autumn as they started their summer holiday yesterday.

The autumn session looked like being even more busy than the work programme they had just completed in their first year, according to the Leader of the House, Mr Donie Cassidy, who pointed out that 40 per cent of Government legislation had originated in the Upper House over the 12-month period.

Earlier the Cathaoirleach, Mr Brian Mullooly, noted that they had had a very busy year, with a regular number of sitting days. They had done a lot of work and had processed a great deal of important legislation.

He wished to thank the staff of the House for their contributions to this legislative achievement.
