SENATOR IVOR Callely and his wife Jennifer drew down mortgages on a number of properties in Dublin in 2007, the Registry of Deeds confirmed.
The properties he joint-owned included 21 Brookwood Road, Artane; 1 Brookwood Grove, Artane; 28 Furry Park Road, Killester; 22 Hawthorn Terrace, East Wall and site number 18 Greenwood Walk on the Malahide Road.
A mortgage was drawn down on a property at 8 Craigford Avenue, Killester, in 2006 by Mr Callely, his wife Jennifer and son Ronan.
In the register of members’ interests for Seanad Eireann for 2007, Mr Callely declared a property for letting at 48 St David’s Wood, Artane, and co-ownership “with three other individuals” of 59-60 Clontarf Road, which was described as an “investment”. He declared the St David’s Wood property in the 2006 register of members’ interests.
He lost his Dáil seat in the 2007 general election, having resigned his minister of state position in 2005 over having had his house painted for free by a building company in the 1990s.
A spokesman for the Oireachtas said the contents of submissions to the register of members’ interests was a matter for each individual member.
Senators must fill out a form outlining their interests every year in accordance with standards in public office legislation and send it to the Standards in Public Office Commission. It is not an offence to omit details.
A member of the committee that ruled against Mr Callely in a recent travel expenses investigation, Green Party Senator Dan Boyle, claimed Mr Callely did not declare all properties referred to at Seanad hearings to the Oireachtas register of members’ interests.
He said an authority other than the Committee on Members Interests of Seanad Éireann should investigate.
