Security has been increased at the American Ambassador’s home in the Phoenix Park and at the Consular offices in Ballsbridge in the wake of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington yesterday.
A garda spokeswoman said the Garda Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner met with Government officials yesterday to discuss the situation.
She said events were under constant review.
Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports remain heightened security alert. Aer Lingus has cancelled all its transatlantic flights today.
