A second defendant in the Damilola Taylor murder trial has walked free from the Old Bailey.

A second defendant in the Damilola Taylor murder trial has walked free from the Old Bailey.

On the directions of the judge, the 15-year-old boy was formally cleared of murder, manslaughter and assault with intent to rob.

On February 28th, Mr Justice Hooper directed a 17-year-old youth to be cleared of similar charges after throwing out the evidence of a 14-year-old girl who claimed she had witnessed the killing.

Two brothers, both aged 16, remain charged with Damilola's death. They deny involvement.

Damilola, 10, died in November 2000 after being stabbed with a broken bottle in the North Peckham Estate, south London.

The boy released today was 13 when he was arrested by police, along with 13 others, during dawn raids on their homes in December 2000.
