Two car bombs believed to be the responsibility of Basque extremists exploded today on Spain's Costa Del Sol, injuring at least six people as EU leaders held a summit in nearby Seville, police said.
The first bomb attack in the resort town of Fuengirola injured four British tourists and two Spaniards. It was followed a few hours later by a second blast in a downtown street of Marbella, only 27 kilometers away.
No one was injured in the second attack, but nearby vehicles were damaged, Marbella Mayor Julian Munoz told Onda Cero radio.
As in the first attack, the Basque separatist group ETA issued an anonymous phone call warning, giving police time to evacuate the area around the city's Sultan Hotel before the bomb went off.
The bomb occurred just after the start of a summit of EU leaders in Seville, about 220 kilometres from Marbella.
The blast came a day after the Basque militant group ETA issued a statement calling on the European leaders at their summit in Seville to put pressure on Spain and France to grant autonomy to the Basques.
