Searches are due to resume this morning for two men who are feared drowned in separate incidents.
An Ennis man fell into the River Fergus in the town early yesterday morning. Dermot Molloy (21), Cahercalla Estate in Ennis, fell from the Club Bridge at about 2.20am after a night out in Ennis.
A local security man, Pa Harding, jumped in after him but was unable to rescue Mr Molloy from the swollen river.
It is believed that Mr Molloy, who worked at a garage in Ennis, disappeared from view in spite of Mr Harding's efforts.
The alarm was immediately raised and a search got under way at first light yesterday.
A search of the river by the Garda water unit failed to find Mr Molloy's body.
The Shannon based air-sea rescue helicopter was also involved in attempting to locate him.
In Cahir, Co Tipperary, a search for a man in his 40s was abandoned yesterday because of bad weather.
Strong currents and poor visibility made it difficult for the Garda water unit who searched an area around the Castle Street Bridge in the town.
Gardaí say the local man may have fallen from a bridge in the town into the River Suir at about 10pm on Saturday night.
Sgt PJ Griffin, from Cahir Garda station, said they were looking at the possibility of a "very tragic accident".
He said local rescue teams would consider putting a boat out on the river later today to look for the missing man.
