An air and sea search will continue today off the Connemara coast for the body of an Englishman who drowned in a swimming accident at the weekend.
The body of his friend, a 27-year-old English woman, has already been recovered by rescue services, but intensive efforts to recover the man's body proved inconclusive yesterday.
Malin Coast Guard said the search would resume shortly before low water mark at noon today. Irish Coast Guard units combed the shoreline near Omey Island and adjoining bays throughout yesterday, while a helicopter, lifeboats and the Naval Service patrol ship LE Aisling, along with Naval Service divers, were involved in the sea search.
The divers concentrated on the area close to Aerphort beach, north-west of Clifden en route to Claddaghduff, where the two friends went swimming early on Sunday morning.
The pair were among a group of 12 holidaying in the area.
The woman's body was spotted by an Irish Coast Guard helicopter west of Inishturk island at lunchtime on Sunday.
Members of her family arrived in Galway yesterday, but her name is not being released until all relatives have been informed.
