An intensive sea search close to Ballycotton off the coast of Co Cork will continue until dark for a crewman reported missing from the naval vessel the LE Roisin.
The sailor, 36-year-old Petty Officer cook T.J. Doyle, was last seen at 8:20 a.m. Mr Doyle is married with two children aged eight and 10-years-of-age.
When the ship anchored at Ballycotton, the man’s disappearance was discovered and a full search of the vessel was ordered at around 10:30 a.m.
When the man was not located on board the Coast Guard were informed and a search commenced.
The LE Aoifeand LE Eithnehave joined the search along with the Ballycotton Lifeboat. The LE Roisinhas returned to Cork Harbour. The search has been extended out to Cable Island and off shore for about four miles.
An Aer Corps helicopter from Waterford has joined the search while the Ballycotton and Youghal Coast Guard Units have been searching the shore line.
