A swimmer was feared missing off Sandycove, Co Dublin, last night after an exhaustive air-sea rescue search failed to locate him. The man was reported missing from the area known as the Forty Foot. shortly after 10.15 p.m. Two lifeboats from Dun Laoghaire, assisted by Garda and marine rescue helicopters and the Dun Laoghaire coastguard, conducted a sweep of the coastline without success. The search will recommence early this morning.
Meanwhile gardai I in Kilkenny and Waterford were last night searching the River Suir for a young man. The Marine Rescue Service helicopter was also involved in the search. The man, who entered the river at Gyles Quay, Ferrybank at about 2.45 a.m. yesterday, is understood to be in his 20s and from the area.
