The SDLP is willing to consider merging with a political party in the Republic in the future, according to party leader, Mr Mark Durkan.
In an interview with BBC's Hearts and Mindsprogramme, Mr Durkan said he believed there would be a natural realignment throughout Ireland in years to come.
Mr Durkan, who is also the North's Deputy First Minister, would not be drawn on any particular party but said such a move, if it came, would be in line with long term political changes.
