Scots name same team to face South Africa

Scotland will line up against South Africa on Saturday with the same team that beat Romania 37-10 at the weekend.

Scotland will line up against South Africa on Saturday with the same team that beat Romania 37-10 at the weekend.

Coach Ian McGeechan's decision to stick with the same 15 means there is still no place in the side for experienced flyhalf/centre Gregor Townsend and place-kicking duties will again be handed to the New Zealand-born Brendan Laney.

Laney plays at fullback for Edinburgh but will be at centre on Saturday. He has already amassed 100 international points in just eight internationals.

Winger Nikki Walker, fullback Stuart Moffat and prop Bruce Douglas, who all made their debuts against the Romanians, get their chance to prove themselves at a higher level.

Scotland's only changes came on the replacements bench with David Hilton coming in for the injured Mathie Stewart and Jason White replacing his Glasgow team-mate Jon Petrie.

Hilton was recalled to the squad this week for the first time in two years having finally qualified to play for Scotland on the basis of residence.

The Glasgow prop's international career came to an abrupt halt in 2000 after it emerged that the "Edinburgh-born" grandfather on which his eligibility had been based had actually been born in England.

He has since re-qualified and is set to add to his 41 caps.
