Irish students won seven bronze medals and one silver in this year's science olympiads which involved top students from nearly 40 countries in separate biology, chemistry, maths and physics competitions.
Raja Mukherji, Drimnagh Castle Secondary School, Dublin, won Ireland's first silver in the chemistry olympiad in Thailand, and Michelle McCartney, The High School, Rathgar, Dublin, and Sorcha Ni Dhubhghaill, Colaiste Padraig CBS, Lucan, Co Dublin, took bronze medals at the biology event in Sweden.
Other winners included: Colman Carroll, St Andrew's College, Booterstown, Dublin, and Fiona McFerran, Loreto College, Coleraine, Co Derry, who won bronze in chemistry; Adrian Rea, Ballyclare High School, Co Antrim, and John Browne, Presentation College, Athenry, Co Galway, who took bronze in biology; and Barkley Bellinger, Bangor Grammar School, Bangor, Co Down, who won bronze at the physics olympiad in Italy.
