Eight postprimary schools in Cavan, Leitrim, Fermanagh and Tyrone have come together in a crossBorder initiative to use information technology in small rural schools.
The schools - the largest of which has just over 300 pupils - aim to use interactive video conferencing, e mail and the Internet to offer their pupils a wider range of subjects than they do at present.
The initiative is a joint venture between the Cavan and Leitrim Vocational Education Committees, the Western Education and Library Board in Northern Ireland and the University of Ulster.
It has been funded by the EU's Special Programme for Peace and Reconciliation.
