Four primary schools in the Republic are set to join schools in Northern Ireland and one in Warrington, Lancashire, in an educational project which aims to promote understanding, reconciliation and peace between communities, writes Clare Murphy. Children from three schools in Co Meath and one in Co Cavan will participate in the "Warrington Project", formed in the wake of the 1993 IRA bombing of the town.
Speaking in Belfast yesterday, Mr Nick Tomlinson said that the first phase of the scheme had established relationships mainly between schools in Warrington and Northern Ireland. "Phase two is important, because we are now bringing on board further schools in the Republic, and this extends the project to the communities within these islands at large." Kilbride National School in Co Meath was one of 16 schools to take part in the first phase of the project and is now be joined by a further four schools in the Republic for the second phase.
