Educate Together, the body which represents the State's 16 multi-denominational schools, has formed a limited company. In a statement, the company said that many multi-denominational schools were in serious financial difficulty. "These schools are crippled by massive fundraising efforts merely to provide sites and buildings for schools that are non-fee-paying and supposedly State-funded," it said. "It is no longer acceptable that a sector that today represents less than half of 1 per cent of primary schools in Ireland is treated as if it had the resources of one or other of the main religious institutions in the country."
