Schindler’s widow (93) dies in hospital

Mr Oskar Schindler's widow, Emilie, has died in a German hospital aged 93.

Mr Oskar Schindler's widow, Emilie, has died in a German hospital aged 93.

Her biographer Ms Erika Rosenberg says she died at a hospital in Strausberg.

Mrs Schindler helped her husband save thousands of Jews from Nazi death camps - a story which inspired the film Schindler's List.

She had been admitted to hospital in July although doctors refused to disclose details of her illness.

Mrs Schindler had lived in Argentina since 1949 but said she wanted to spend her final days in Germany.

Mr Oskar Schindler died in 1974 and was buried in Jerusalem at his own request.

The couple saved the lives of 1,200 Jews during the Second World War by claiming they were needed as factory workers.
