A Hindu fundamentalist group in India yesterday declared the BSE crisis in Britain was a manifestation of "divine displeasure" over slaughtering cows for beef, Rahul Bedi reports from New Dehli.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) claimed the disease afflicting British cattle was a vindication of ancient Hindu belief that cows were sacred and killing them, blasphemous. The slaughter of cows is banned in India and anyone found guilty faces up to five years in jail.
