Ryanair proposals for new routes out of Shannon Airport should not be linked to the issue of a second terminal in Dublin, the Minister for Public Enterprise, Ms O'Rourke, told the Limerick Chamber of Commerce.

"Any such proposal would have to be on the basis of an open competitive tender process, accessible to all interested parties to ensure fairness, transparency and value for money. What is offered to one has to be offered for all," she said.

Ryanair said it remained confident the Government would support its overall plan "because the alternative - high figures and zero growth - will be damaging to Irish tourism and the economy."
