Rustie, Little Big Tent:
Here comes the bass.
In spite of the lights and the brilliant visuals, Glaswegian producer Russell ‘Rustie’ Whyte stands in the shadows onstage, but the music he¹s producing is a most colourful affair.
Whyte specialises in putting squelchy, slo-mo bass with dramatic synth stabs and beeps to create compelling 23rd century melodies. It’s a disco for robots and those who love robots, produced by a man who has the imagination, suss and ability to send you higher with every new wave of sound.
As Whyte pulled one banger after another from last year’s ‘Glass Swords’ debut album for Warp, this was something to savour.
Don’t be surprised if Rustie starts taking steps into other arenas in the future. This could well be the stuff of futuristic concert halls.
