Scotland international Jon Petrie has called for blade-style boots to be banned after suffering an horrific gash to his leg last month.

The Glasgow Warriors number eight was cut to the bone by the boot during the autumn Test defeat against Argentina at Murrayfield.

Now Petrie is calling for the revolutionary studs to be outlawed in the game.

Petrie said: "I made my views known to Ian Goodall - the referees supremo at Murrayfield.

"He has, in turn, passed on his opinions to the IRB in Dublin and I believe they are looking at the situation. "I have no idea at this stage of whether they are going to outlaw the use of these studs.

"I had no idea whatsoever that anything had happened until another player pointed out the wounds and that's when the panic and pain kicked in.

"It was just unfortunate things that happen and no-one is to blame."
