THE RUC is treating as suspicious the death of a woman whose bones were found on the outskirts of Belfast, writes Suzanne Breen. The remains were discovered by children at the bottom of a steep wooded slope on Sunday.
They are believed to belong to a woman aged between 20 and 40 who died about a year ago. Forensic experts were yesterday combing Derriaghy, near the Milltown estate.
The RUC sealed off the area after being contacted by parents whose children made the discovery. A team of detectives has been appointed to study missing persons lists and dental records.
The RUC Assistant Chief Constable, Mr Bill Stewart, described it as "a very distressing case".
Meanwhile, the RUC yesterday returned to the social security office on the Falls Road in west Belfast where INLA chief of staff, Gino Gallagher, was shot dead last week.
Detectives questioned motorists and people entering the dole office about the killing. An RUC spokesman said the police made no moral judgment about murder victims and Gallagher's killing would be thoroughly investigated.
