Journalists in RTE have been offered pay rises worth around 11 per cent to accept a range of new technology practices, including the introduction of video cameras. This would mean dispensing with camera crews, drivers and film editors in many situations, especially for regional reports.
When the first round of the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness is added to the deal, plus new long service increments, it will be worth between 14 per cent and 20 per cent to most staff.
