Justin Rose, still eight weeks away from his 22nd birthday, grabbed his fourth win of the season today after a terrific battle with Ian Poulter.

Rose took the Victor Chandler British Masters title by one shot from the man in whose house he has been staying all week.

The Hampshire youngster shot his second successive 65 for a 19 under par total of 269.

It was his first victory on British soil - two of the others were in South Africa and the third in Japan.

The pair were level with three to play, but Poulter three-putted the 16th and then missed a seven-foot chance to force a play-off on the last.

Overnight leader Phillip Price finished third, his hopes ending when he ran up a double bogey six on the 467-yard 13th.

Colin Montgomerie moved into second spot on the Order of Merit - behind Retief Goosen - by adding a fourth place to his last three finishes of third, second and second again.

His caddie Andy Prodger was wearing one of the "Be Nice To Monty" badges being issued by an American golf magazine ahead of the US Open in New York in 11 days' time.

Padraig Harrington was best of the Irish finishing on a respectable 10-under par. Paul McGinley was one stroke further back while Ulsterman Darren Clarke finished level.
